Norman Antivirus Software Review
SUMMARY: Norman is one of the leading data
security products providers offering software for virus control, email
control, spam control, personal firewall, download control, encryption,
data recovery, and many more.
REVIEW: The Norman FireBreak 4.5 is a
server-based anti-virus program that works for Novell’s NetWare
OS. It checks stored/accessed files from NetWare server for viruses,
Trojans, malicious code, etc.
It offers two types of scanning, real-time and on-demand. The
user cannot copy, infect, or run an infected file. Norman FireBreak
will detect, repair, delete, or quarantine the file. The user can
configure the settings.
With On-demand scanning the user can scan parts or complete
server for detecting Viruses. Norman scanner engine has a unique
SandBox technology to detect new, unknown viruses.
THE PROS:
- Multi CPU support
- Open architecture supporting mixed environments like Linux, Mac, and Windows.
- ifolder and iPrint for secured access to network services involving connected devices.
THE CONS:
- Confusing interface with small overlapping features.
- Some viruses detected in on-access scan can be removed only by running a complete on-demand scan.
Less effective on polymorphic viruses and backdoors/Trojans. |
